True Launch Bar 5.6

True Launch Bar Editor's Review

I was searching for a solution to display all my important shortcuts without cluttering my desktop. I installed True Launch Bar and wasn't disappointed with it. It has a lot of plugins available, which make your life easier by providing easy access to your programs and to information about your computer. The program has many options which you can configure in order to make it look just the way you want.

I like this desktop toolbar because I could make it look just like the dock on Mac computers. It supports transparency, auto hiding, and locking. The fact that not all the plugins are installed when you first start the program is in its advantage. You can choose which items you need, and install them directly from the publisher's website. In order to accomplish this, a second executable file is distributed with the application. It's called "Components Manager" and it's also used to update the program or the plugins.

Memory usage is good. The toolbar takes about 9 MB of your memory (RAM) with no plugins installed. If you install plugins, your memory usage rises a little. However, I never felt that the program had an impact on my system performance.

Pluses: The program is easy to configure and can display useful information: system up time, weather forecast, battery status, processes list and others.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: This nice toolbar won't disappoint you. Give it a try!
